How to Apply Lash Adhesive Correctly for Better Retention
Better lash retention is not only about choosing the right adhesive. It also depends on how the adhesive is used, how much is applied, and whether the room conditions support proper curing.
For lash artists, small technique changes can make a big difference in bonding, consistency, and client results.
Use a Thin, Even Coating
One of the most common adhesive mistakes is using too much glue. More adhesive does not always mean better retention.
For best results, apply a thin, even coating to the base of the lash extension. The adhesive should be controlled, clean, and consistent — not heavy, clumpy, or overloaded.
A proper coating helps the extension bond smoothly to the natural lash and reduces the risk of blooming, white residue, or weak attachment.
Avoid Over-Dipping
Over-dipping can create too much adhesive at the base of the extension. This can slow down curing, create messy attachment, and make the finished set feel less clean.
Dip with control. You want enough adhesive to create a proper bond, but not so much that the glue beads up or overwhelms the lash.
Replace Your Adhesive Drop During Service
Adhesive begins reacting with moisture in the air as soon as it is exposed. Over time, the drop can become thicker, stringy, or less consistent.
Replace your adhesive drop as needed during service to keep the texture fresh and the bond consistent. If the adhesive starts acting differently, do not force it — refresh the drop.
Watch Your Humidity and Temperature
Room conditions matter. NikkiLash adhesives perform best around 40–60% humidity and below 74°F / 23°C.
If humidity is too low, curing may slow down. If humidity is too high, adhesive can cure too quickly or become harder to control.
Below 40% humidity, a nano-mister may help support curing. Above 70% humidity, a dehumidifier can help improve adhesive control and consistency.
Choose the Right Dry Time for Your Speed
Every lash artist works at a different pace. Choosing the right adhesive dry time is important for clean attachment and better retention.
BADASS ONE has a fast 2–3 second dry time and is best for artists who work quickly.
BADASS SENSITIVE has a 4–5 second dry time and gives more control with fewer fumes.
BADASS SENSITIVE+ has an 8–10 second dry time and is the gentlest option in the BADASS line for extremely sensitive clients.
Do Not Ignore Adhesive Storage
Even the best adhesive can lose performance if it is stored incorrectly.
Keep adhesive in a cool, dry, dark place at room temperature. After opening, keep the bottle tightly sealed inside the resealable pouch with the silica pack.
Do not refrigerate adhesive after opening. Replace opened adhesive after 6 weeks, or sooner if the consistency becomes thick, gummy, stringy, or performance changes.
Final Retention Reminder
Better retention comes from clean technique, proper room conditions, fresh adhesive, and choosing the right formula for your speed and client needs.
Use a thin, even coating. Avoid over-dipping. Refresh your adhesive drop as needed. Monitor your room conditions. Store your adhesive properly.
Small details matter — and in lash work, consistency is what creates better results.
